Albany Preparatory Charter School Clubs and After School Activities

 

Chess Club- Learn to play chess and compete in chess tournaments.

Arts and Crafts Club- This club is for scholars who enjoy doing and learning new crafts. The craft club will focus on creating items from yarn, string, or lanyards, creating oragami objects, or making jewelry. The club will sponosr a craft fair and sell some items that were created.

Choir- The albany Preparatory Charter School choir meets once a week. Participants will learn how to sing different genres of music. The choir will have a winter and spring concert.

Creative Writing Club- The club is for scholars who enjoy writing stories, plays, poems, and rap songs. Scholars will share their creative writing with eachother. The club will also visit local events featuring famous authors and poets. The club will also produce an annual magazine featuring the participants creative writing. The club can also sponosr a poetry slam.  

Culinary Club- Do you enjoy cooking? Learn to cook/bake delicious items. The club can sell the prepared items and donate the proceeds to the charity of their choice.

Delicate Diamonds- This is a girls only club that will discuss issues related to girls.

Drama Club- The drama club will learn the art of acting. Scholars will practice skits and eventually perform a play.  They will also learn how to produce a play- making the sets, costumes, special effects, etc.

Living Strings- This club is for scholars who would like to learn to play the violin. Participants will meet twice weekly.  They will have a spring concert to demonstrate their efforts.

Yearbook Commmittee- This club is limited to 8th graders.  These scholars will prepare a yearbook, they will learn about photography, desktop publishing, formatting, and graphics.

Odyssey of the Mind- The Odyssey of the Mind teaches students to learn creative problem-solving methods while having fun in the process. For more than twenty-five years, this unique program has helped teachers generate excitement in their students. By tapping into creativity, and through encouraging imaginative paths to problem-solving, students learn skills that will provide them with the
ability to solve problems -- great and small -- for a lifetime. The Odyssey of the Mind teaches students how to think divergently by providing open-ended problems that appeal to a wide range of interests.

Step Team- Do you enjoy stomping and clapping to a certain style? This group is more than a dance team, it is a group dedicated to doing steps, stomps, claps, and movements to entertain.
